Family Dental Plus — Dentist Serving Rolling Hills Estates, CA
Rolling Hills Estates has preserved its equestrian character since incorporating in 1957. The city of 8,280 residents maintains 25 miles of riding trails, and nearly 90% of households are owner-occupied. Families here tend to stay — and a dental practice that handles six specialties in one office fits that kind of community.
A Quiet Peninsula City with Deep Roots
Rolling Hills Estates incorporated on September 18, 1957, with a stated civic mission of preserving open space and promoting the equestrian lifestyle — a commitment the city still honors today. The 2020 Census counted 8,280 residents, and the community's housing patterns reflect its settled character: of the 3,030 occupied housing units counted at the census, 89.8% were owner-occupied and just 10.2% were renter-occupied.
The city maintains seven parks, 25 miles of equestrian trails, and 10 miles of bicycle paths, along with its own tennis club and stables. The Peter Weber Equestrian Center — managed by PWEC Enterprises, Inc. on behalf of the city — operates alongside public riding rings. The George F Canyon Preserve and Nature Center is a 51-acre preserve owned by the city and operated by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy; a nature trail passes through one of the largest canyons on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, through willow-riparian and coastal sage scrub habitats, accessible on foot or horseback.
For everyday shopping, residents have two longstanding centers: Peninsula Shopping Center at 67 Peninsula Center, opened in phases from May 1961 by developer Jerry Moss, and Promenade PV at 550 Deep Valley Drive, which debuted in Fall 1981 and has operated under several names since.
An estimated 72.2% of residents age 25 and over hold a bachelor's degree or higher, and 31.5% hold a graduate or professional degree. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District serves local families; Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, located within Rolling Hills Estates, ranks #24 among California public high schools according to Niche.com. The 2023 U.S. Census Bureau estimate placed median household income at $187,500.
The Practice and How It Serves the Area
Family Dental Plus has been open since 1995. The office is at 104 W Anaheim Street, Suite C, in Wilmington — accessible from Rolling Hills Estates by driving north on Western Avenue or Crenshaw Boulevard. Dr. John Cohen, DDS, owns and leads the practice. Since its founding, the office has operated on a single premise: that most families should not have to visit multiple offices for different dental needs. General dentistry, pediatric care, orthodontics, dental implants, oral surgery, and cosmetic dentistry are all handled in-house, with records kept in one place.
That model fits Rolling Hills Estates well. In a community where nearly 90% of households own their homes, families often look for a dentist who can follow them through decades — first cleanings for young children, braces in the school years, implants and surgical care for adults, and ongoing preventive work in between. The same office handles all of it, with no referrals to outside providers for implant placement or oral surgery.
Six Specialties, One Address
- General dentistry — exams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride, sealants, and prevention-focused care
- Pediatric dentistry — first visits from age one; bilingual, child-friendly approach
- Orthodontics — traditional braces and clear aligners for children, teens, and adults; free initial consultation
- Dental implants — single, multiple, and All-on-4 placements handled in-house; no outside surgical referral needed
- Oral surgery — wisdom teeth, extractions, and surgical procedures performed in the office
- Cosmetic dentistry — whitening, veneers, bonding, and smile design
