Why Family Dental Plus exists, who runs it, and what makes the "Plus" matter.
Our story
When Family Dental Plus opened in 1995, most dental offices specialized in one or two things. If you needed braces, you went to an orthodontist across town. If you needed implants, you went somewhere else. If your kid needed a pediatric specialist, that was a third appointment in a third office.
The founders thought that didn't make sense for families. So we built a practice that could handle all of it — general dentistry, pediatric care, orthodontics, dental implants, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and cosmetic dentistry — under one roof, with one set of records, billed through one office.
Today, the practice is owned solely by Dr. John Cohen, DDS, its longtime owner and lead dentist. Dr. Cohen built Family Dental Plus on the conviction that a general dentist should be able to handle the full picture: routine cleanings, restorative work, surgical implant placement, and complex reconstructive cases. That depth is why patients who walk in for a cleaning leave knowing the same office can also handle the harder work — no referral merry-go-round.
Thirty-one years later, we're still doing it. Wilmington families come here for first cleanings, braces in middle school, wisdom teeth in college, implants in middle age, and dentures in retirement. Same office. Same trusted team. The "Plus" in our name is the philosophy.
