Family Dental Plus: A Neighbourhood Dental Practice for Carson, CA
Carson is the youngest municipality in the South Bay, incorporated on February 20, 1968, and sits about 13 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. Our practice serves families across this part of the harbor area, and we like knowing the streets our patients drive in from.
The Carson our patients call home
With a 2020 census population of 95,548, Carson is a working city with deep industrial roots and a young civic history. The land under it was part of Rancho San Pedro, one of the first California land grants and the first to win a U.S. patent, when the Spanish Crown granted 75,000 acres to soldier Juan José Domínguez in 1784. The Dominguez name still marks the hills and the university. After oil was discovered on the Dominguez property in 1921, the value of the land skyrocketed, and refining has shaped the local economy ever since.
That economy is shifting. Phillips 66 announced plans to cease operations at its Los Angeles-area refinery in the fourth quarter of 2025, a site where roughly 600 employees and 300 contractors have worked. Developers Catellus and Deca have unveiled plans to redevelop the 223-acre former refinery property into a nearly 3.91-million-square-foot campus called Diamond Gateway. Meanwhile the Marathon Los Angeles Refinery remains an active Carson employer. Change on this scale touches households, work schedules and the way people plan appointments, and we try to stay flexible for the families it affects.
A community we recognise
Carson has one of the largest Filipino communities anywhere. Per the 2010 census, the city was 25.6% Asian, of which 20.9% were Filipino, the single largest Asian subgroup; the state Assembly district covering part of Carson contains one of the largest populations of Filipino people outside the Philippines. Aggregator estimates also put the median age around 41.7 years, which fits the mix of long-settled families and younger residents we see in our chairs.
Two Carson institutions bring people through the city every week. California State University, Dominguez Hills, a public university founded in 1960 and part of the CSU system, enrolled 14,262 students in Fall 2024 across a 346-acre campus. On that campus sits Dignity Health Sports Park, a 125-acre complex managed by AEG and home to the LA Galaxy, which opened June 1, 2003. As an LA28 venue it will host Olympic archery, rugby sevens, tennis, field hockey and track cycling. And most drivers know the Goodyear blimp base, which opened in January 1968, covers 27 acres, and sits where the I-405 and I-110 freeways meet.
What our practice does
Family Dental Plus is a long-established neighbourhood dental practice. We see children, parents and grandparents, and we take the time to explain what we find and what the options are before anything is decided. Our aim is steady, ordinary dental care: routine check-ups and cleanings, fillings, and the kind of attention that keeps small problems small.
You can read a full description of the appointments we offer on our services page. Because the cost of care matters to families, we set out how we handle coverage and payment on our insurance and financing page, so you can check details before you come in. If you would like a sense of how other patients have found us, our reviews page collects their comments.
Bringing your family in
We welcome new patients from Carson and the surrounding harbor communities. If you are booking for children, a grandparent, or the whole household on one afternoon, tell us when you call and we will try to arrange it. Carson households speak many languages, and for Spanish-speaking families we keep a Spanish-language version of the site so you can read the same information in your own words.
When you are ready to schedule, or if you just have a question about what a visit involves, the quickest route is our contact page. Tell us a little about who is coming and any concerns you have, and we will get back to you.
Nearby neighbourhoods
Carson sits close to communities we already serve, so if you are on the edge of the city, another of our locations may be handier for you. You can find those pages, along with practice background and hours, from the same section of this site.
